This year we have had to make the difficult decision to cancel all our events including our annual open house, outdoor market and the Awakening to Better Beauty event.
The Awakening to Better Beauty Event is a program that we created for women in our community who are undergoing cancer treatment. The day involves some complimentary spa services like hair/wig styling, makeup, nails, reflexology, massage, lunch, tea party and a keepsake photo-shoot. It is all done by volunteers and it takes place at The Beauty Barn. We started this event in 2015 and since the opening of the Beauty Barn we have joined forces with the BGH oncology nursing staff to make it a yearly event.
This year it broke our hearts to cancel our Awakening event but necessary as it is designed for some of the most at risk women in our community due to their compromised immune system.
One of the members of the nursing staff at the hospital reached out to us to knowing that it’s an important event for the chosen women giving them something to look forward to. They asked if there was a way that this year’s event could still move forward. We reassessed if we could still make it happen, and we knew our answer was YES! It will happen but it’s going to be a little different since we cannot host the actual group event. What we can do is continue to offer the nominated women the gift bags, donations and a complimentary spa service on a private one on one basis. This would allow the women to still enjoy the pampering of the spa without the risk of exposure of group events.
We have started to collect health minded and wellness donations to go into the bags.
Including but not limited to: Beauty Barn oncology approved spa services, Farm House Fresh products, Davids Toothpaste, Spa Ritual, Kevin Murphy, donated book by author Shannon Hugman, Go Kotta Wellness, flowers provided by Wildflower, Your Home Your Story, and gifts provided by anonymous individuals with more on the way.
This year as we are not able to hold the event we are inviting the nursing staff at the Brantford oncology department and local community to nominate someone you know or yourself to be a recipient of Awakening 2020. You can do so by sending us a letter with the story of your nominee before Oct 30, 2020.
All letters will be given to our Awakening advisors to choose the final selected nominees.
If you have donated in the past or would like to be a part of this year’s event by donating to the gift bags, please send us a private message or email letting us know what you would like to donate. All donations need to be in multiples of 15. Contact us for more information: www.thebeautybarnspa.com
