Canada Day in the County

By : Emma Johnston

Canada Day is often celebrated locally by outdoor concerts, public fireworks, outside events and local parties. Due to COVID-19, these events had to be cancelled for the 2020 year. As a way of making the day special, local businesses offered deals, special pop up sales, extended holiday hours and dinner and drink discounts.
A virtual music event took place at 3:00pm on Wednesday, with an exceptional music lineup. This production was put on by Noisemaker Management in partnership with FRC Marketing. This virtual festival, with portions of the event filmed live from the County of Brant, featured a number of well-known musicians including Sam Roberts Band, Gord Sinclair (of The Tragically Hip), Dean Brody, The Trews, Dear Rouge, Riit, and William Prince. Online admission to this event was free and proceeds from online VIP packages and online merchandise sales benefit the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA).
Many found ways of celebrating at home, participated in local socially distant activities and shared in the on-line experiences offered through the County and beyond. Many others will celebrate over the weekend, and are reminded to maintain social distancing standards, have fun and stay safe.
