Local Women Battling Cancer Receive Beautiful Gift From The Awakening to Better Beauty Event

By : Emma Johnston

The Awakening to Better Beauty Project, put on each year by The Beauty Barn Spa on Cleaver Road is an event designed to pamper and support local women battling cancer and infertility. Developed by spa owner Corrie Gallant, this annual project has been met with great enthusiasm and appreciation by both those who attend and their loved ones.
This year, due to the restrictions from COVID 19 and the high risk to the patients, The Awakening to Better Beauty Project had to be re-imagined. Corrie reached out to the Brant Community Health Care System Cancer Clinic and worked directly with registered nurse Melanie Cavanaugh. Melanie, along with a panel of other professionals created a list of women who would benefit from the program and worked with Corrie to make it happen.
“In previous years we always received amazing feedback from this event” says Melanie, “the ladies return talking about how beautiful and memorable The Awakening to Better Beauty Project was for them, I was glad to be a part of it again.”
This year, because the usual pampering and spa services couldn’t be offered as they had in previous years, each of the women were gifted a spa inspired gift bag. Each bag contained gifts, health products, treats, bouquets of flowers and individual spa services to be had at their convenience.
The women chosen this year weren’t able to gather like they had in previous years, but a small layout of food was prepared and they were invited to receive the gifts that had been donated by various businesses and services in the area.
The love and generosity that goes into this event each year makes a huge impact on the women invited to attend. Though it wasn’t as Corrie had hoped, it was still a great way to show support and build community among the women involved.
