Phil McColeman MP Brantford-Brant, will not seek re-election.
First elected in 2008 and having served 4 terms, Phil McColeman has announced that he will not be running in the next Federal election.
As Brantford-Brant’s representative, Phil has been recognized as a compassionate, hardworking MP with a strong voice in Ottawa.
“It’s been a busy 12 years and I have a lot of people to thank for their support and for all that we have been able to achieve together” said McColeman.
In Ottawa, Phil has served in many leadership roles; as the Conservative Opposition Shadow Minister for Veterans Affairs, Treasury Board Critic, Deputy Finance Critic, Chair of the Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills and Social Development and Status of Persons with Disabilities (HUMA), Chair of the Conservative Housing and Construction Caucus, and Vice Chair of the Post-Secondary Education Caucus.
Locally, McColeman has secured record federal funding for major infrastructure projects including the Laurier Research & Academic Centre, the YMCA Laurier Athletics & Recreation Complex, the Brant Sports Complex, the Six Nations state-of-the-art Water Treatment Plant and the new Six Nations Police Station to name a few.
In 2014, he spearheaded the Mohawk Lake Working Group and delivered $2 million in federal funding to launch the remediation of Mohawk Lake.
MP Passport Clinics, Community Shred Days and his annual Hockey Night in Brantford Charity Game were all new initiatives McColeman and his dedicated team undertook to better serve and support his constituents and the community.
“My commitment from day one was to foster a culture of exceptional service for the residents of Brantford-Brant.” noted McColeman. “We did this by putting together an energetic and talented team, by setting politics aside, working across partisan political party lines and collaborating with all levels of government.”
“My deepest gratitude and thanks goes to my family, loyal volunteers, supporters, constituents and my amazing staff” Phil said. “It has been an absolute privilege and pleasure to serve the people of Brantford-Brant and I look forward to welcoming the new Conservative candidate to represent our riding. McColeman will continue to serve as MP and fulfill his parliamentary duties for the remainder of his term.
